Who was Interior Minister Denys Monastyrsky during the Ukraine War
The most senior Ukrainian official to die since the conflict started almost a year ago was Denys Monastyrsky, who was 42 when he died in a helicopter crash outside Kyiv.
He had just recently joined the Ukrainian government, though.
In July 2021, barely six months before Russia invaded, he was appointed interior minister.
1980 saw his birth in Khmelnytsky, a city in western Ukraine. He first followed a legal career in private practise before transitioning into politics in 2014.

There had been rumours that Mr Zelensky was preparing to fire Mr Avakov, who was seen as standing in the way of the president’s attempts to tackle corruption.
At the time, the appointment of Mr Monastyrsky was interpreted as consolidating the president’s grip on power.
As interior minister, Mr Monastyrsky was responsible for the police and security inside Ukraine.
